The Mole Trap Public House, Stapleford Tawney

The Mole Trap public house was built in the seventeenth century, and is a grade two listed building. It is not known when the premises were first used as a beerhouse, but there is no mention of it in White’s Directory of Essex in 1848.

According to the Mole Trap PH web-site Samuel Threader invented a mole trap. He put it for commercial sale and made enough money to enable him to build a house. He named that house ‘The Moletrap’. However the building pre-dates Samuel by a couple of hundred years.
