We want the High Country History Group archive to be usable by as many people as possible.

This statement applies to the website at highcountryhistorygroup.org.

How accessible the website is

We aim to follow the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. A complete formal audit has not yet been finished, so we do not currently claim full conformance.

Using this website

You should be able to navigate the principal controls using a keyboard, see a visible focus indicator, skip to the main content, zoom using your browser and enlarge text to 200% from the Accessibility section of the options menu. The website supports mobile reflow, light and dark display modes, labelled controls and form-error announcements.

Known limitations

Some historic photographs may not yet have complete alternative descriptions. Scanned journals and older documents may not be fully readable by assistive technology. Interactive maps, timelines and charts can be more difficult to use with some screen readers or at high magnification. Some newsletter controls are supplied by MailPoet and may behave differently from the rest of the website.

We are reviewing archive records and interfaces as they are maintained. If you need information in another format, please contact us.

How we assess accessibility

The website is being assessed through code review and manual checks including keyboard navigation, visible focus, text enlargement, mobile reflow and colour contrast. Further screen-reader and cross-browser testing is planned. This statement will be updated as testing identifies or resolves issues.
