Some 32 members attended our first talk for the winter season and were entertained by Pam Rollason from Aythorpe Roding, who spoke about Essex Poor Houses, and the development of the Poor Law in England.

Following on from Pam’s talk, much of this edition of the newsletter is taken up with the theme of poverty and the response of the church and parish in dealing with the problem.

For our meeting in November we have Keith Lovell, who will be talking about History through Essex Pub Signs.
