Greensted Church

From the Times Newspaper Sept 24, 1891

To the Editor of The Times

Sir, Greensted Church near Ongar, the only church in England with a Saxon wooden nave (1030), well known to antiquarians, needs repairing. In the neighbourhood we have received the greater portion of the money required, but we still need £50. Will you kindly let me appeal to your readers for help?

The smallest sums will be gratefully received by William Howlett, Esq., Greensted Hall, churchwarden: Messrs Sparrow, bankers, Ongar; or by myself.

Yours faithfully,
FREDERICK ROSE, Rector
Greensted Rectory, Ongar, Sept. 19.
