Holly Tree Working Men’s Club

The Chief Constable has to signify his appreciation of the conduct of Sergeant H. Laver and Pc 147 W. Chinery in the prosecution of the 'Holly Tree Working Men's Club' at Stanford Rivers. After convicting in every case, the Chairman of the Ongar Bench remarked, 'I may say, on behalf of myself and my brother magistrates that the evidence given by the police officers is worthy of great praise. They gave their evidence in a very straightforward and clear manner. Indeed, we think they are particularly worthy of commendation in that respect.'
