James Woolmore of Stanford Rivers

The Late Mr. James Woolmore — The funeral took place on Friday of Mr. James Woolmore. the venerable parish clerk of Stanford Rivers, who passed away at the age of 82. The deceased was a native of Stanford Rivers and had never lived out of the parish. He had been clerk, grave-digger, bellringer, &c., for upwards of 60 years, having succeeded his grandfather, who had served in the office for 38 years. Mr. Woolmore was held in high esteem in the locality. He saw four rectors of the parish — Dr. Dowdeswell, Dr. H. Tatam, the Rev. R. Rolleston, and the Rev. J. 1. Thomas, the present holder of the living. Some time ago a present, subscribed for by nearly all the parishioners, was given to him, and another gift was made in celebration of his diamond jubilee as parish clerk three years ago.
At the funeral at the Parish Church, the Rector, the Rev. J. I. Thomas officiated. The first part of the service was held in the church in the presence of a large congregation.
Among those present were Mr. H. Millbank. churchwarden; Mr. J. Palmer, formerly for years churchwarden with deceased; Dr. Grattan, Mr. W. A. Millbank, Mr. R. Waltham, Mr. J. Clark, and Mrs. Jarvis. The mourners were a son and daughter of deceased.

The deceased was laid to rest in the same grave in which his late wife was buried. the Sunday following Mr. Woolmore's death, a sympathetic reference was made by the Rector, during his sermon, to the loss which the parish had sustained.
