Ongar Magistrates Court

The Magistrates Court was situated adjacent to the Police Station in the High Street (where the current police station is).

The court sat on Saturdays at 12 noon to hear cases.

In 1880 the following were the Magistrates;

  • Lord Carlingford - Dudbrook House, Navestock
  • Sir Charles Cunliffe - Smith - Suttons, S/Tawney
  • Philip John Budworth - Greensted Hall
  • John Lightfoott Newall - Forest Hall, High Ongar
  • Rev. Henry John Earle - High Ongar
  • Rev Edward James Reeve - Stondon Massey
  • Lt. Gen. Albert Fytche - Pyrgo Park, Havering
  • Sir William Neville Abdy - Albyns, S/Abbotts
  • Edward Carrington Wright - Kelvedon Hall

The Clerk/Soclictor - Charles Smith.
