Parish Registers (Part 6): Greensted
In the city centre of Colchester is the Library in Trinity Square (CO1 1JB). It contains a Local Studies Library holding a wealth of material related to the history of Colchester and Essex and is located in the Quiet Zone on the first floor. There is not always a member of staff on duty in the Quiet Zone, so if you know you will need help, or require non-current material, please contact the library before you visit.
Imagine my surprise to find a printed copy of the Parish Registers for Greensted-juxta-Ongar (from 1558 to 1812) open its open shelves. The book is one of the fifty copies produced by F.A. Crisp in 1892 who presented No. 28 (of 50) to Colchester Public Library. The existence of this work was reported in Journal No. 96.188
The content of the book may be cross-referenced to the original Registers held at the Essex Record Office and available on subscription online.189
