Patrick Griggs combines the wider history of invasion, evacuation, German rule, fortification, deportation, food shortages and liberation with personal family letters and memories. These first-hand accounts show how ordinary islanders faced fear, strict controls, rationing, confiscation, hidden radios and near-starvation, while trying to maintain daily life. The talk ends with Jersey’s liberation and the emotional reunification of families separated throughout the war.
