He enlisted in Chelmsford. He died at home from wounds caused by gassing on
2 October 1918, aged 40, and is buried in St Margaret’s Churchyard,
Stanford Rivers.
He also served in the Bedfordshire Regiment and had formerly served in the
Essex Regiment, [Reg. No. 2996].
He was awarded the Victory Medal and the
British War Medal.
Born about 1878 at Toot Hill, Ongar, he was the youngest of five sons of
William and Emily Attridge, who lived at 2 Mill Lane, Toot Hill. He was the
husband of Chrissie C. Attridge, of Toot Hill.
At the time of the 1911 Census he was employed as a cowman on a farm and
lived with his wife and two children at 40 Berwick Lane, Stanford Rivers.

Pt. W. Attridge, youngest son of Mrs Attridge, Toot Hill, who was gassed
in France in May, has died, leaving a widow and three children.
