The Essex Earthquake & The Great Essex Hailstorm
On 22nd April 1884, a major earthquake struck Essex. The earthquake was centred SW of Colchester and caused considerable structural damage. It was felt on the French coast. The great hailstorm event occurred Midsummer's Day in 1897. With hailstoones "the size of hen's eggs", crops were flattened and the destruction reached the High Country. An interesting double bill!
