[202291] Lance Serjeant in the 2nd/5th (Territorial) Battalion,
Gloucestershire Regiment. He enlisted at Brentwood. He also served as a
Corporal [2375] in the Essex Regiment.
He was killed sometime between 23 and 31 March 1918. He has no known grave
and is commemorated on the Pozières Memorial, situated near Albert in France.
He was awarded the 1915 Star, the Victory Medal and the
British War Medal.
George was born about 1895 in Stanford Rivers. He was one of 11 children of
William and Mary Ann Aldridge, who lived at 27 Hare Street, Little End,
Stanford Rivers.
At the time of the 1911 Census he was employed as a farm labourer.
