He enlisted at Stratford. He was killed in action on 3 July 1916.
He has no known grave and is commemorated on the
Thiepval Memorial, France.
He was born about 1891 in Plaistow, the son of Charles and Emma Cable,
who later resided at 41 Berwick Lane, Stanford Rivers.
He was the brother of Mark Cable.
In the 1901 Census, Emma Cable, described as a widow aged 35, was living at
5 West Street, Walthamstow, with her four children: Samuel, aged 13; John,
aged 10; Alfred, aged 6; and Mark, aged 4.
They were recorded as “Boarders” at the address. The occupier was
John Dunningham, described as a widower, whose occupation was cowman.
