[11023] Corporal in the 2nd Battalion, Essex Regiment.
He enlisted at Ongar. He was killed on 23 October 1916.
He has no known grave and is commemorated on the
Thiepval Memorial, France.
Ernest was born about 1899 at Stanford Rivers. He was the son of
Charles and Elizabeth Staines, of Little John’s Cottages,
Green Lane, Ostend, Burnham-on-Crouch.
In the 1911 Census, the family were living at
24 Little End, Stanford Rivers.
